Real Time Weather And Tropical Information For The Costa Maya

26 August 2002 Starfish Trek Episode 10:

Memories for Free!

(This post was inspired by someone's statement regarding the appearance of Xcalak)

I was also quite surprised after driving almost 3000 miles to get here. I knew not to expect a lot and at first glance it appeared to be much less than what I had expected. After being here for a little over 40 days, I realize how very wrong my first impression was. I no longer use the terms, "backward, primitive, impoverished, or unimpressive" in my assessment of this place. It is simply "unspoiled in every way." Life here is the same as the big city of Houston, only different. The term, "southern hospitality" describing the warmth of the people in the southern part of the US is eclipsed by the community of Xcalak. Sure they don't have a lot of money or infrastructure but, what they lack in all of that is dwarfed by their warmth, friendliness, generosity and peaceful coexistence with nature. Be warned, it is highly contagious! These people and this place, on first look, may very well give you a feeling that you have entered a shabby little town. The true beauty of this area and people is what they are very wealthy in; unspoiled jungle, beaches and crystal clear waters, all brimming with plants, animals and the earth providing shelter, sustenance, and perhaps a view of what heaven will be in an afterlife. I salute the wonderment of Xcalak and all who reside here. Should you decide to visit, take a deep breath upon arrival and marvel in the fact that such an unspoiled place still exists while it still does!

Take only memories. Leave only bubbles.

As a rule, it is generally harmless but, those who are concerned should do a scan after visiting. Search for AdAware from Lavasoft on the internet, it is free.
